Personally I am not and I see the companies that do the research as truly leading the way to figuring out how to feed the World. There are food shortages and more people being born every minute. There are also issues with water supplies in many regions running dry and too many people to feed. No water means no agriculture either. For those against the issues of certain additives used in food processing, I am with you on the getting rid of infiltrated food and some of these additives, but not all. You see, I believe that there are realities on other issues of depleted soil, insecticide (over-use) and some issues in food processing that need to be more scrutinized. Indeed, I like most understand the potential problems and issues with playing god prematurely with some GM crops and we must keep and eye on this and do more research to insure we get it right. In fact, I am actually a proponent of GM Crops with due diligence, research and proper understanding of enzymes, RNA, DNA, switches, etc. Most concerned about water issues, pollination and feeding 10 Billion People by 2015 if we have excessive droughts in many regions of the world and continued Wars, tearing apart civilizations. Well, these are some thoughts for the GM Protestors and that lady in the news who found a worm in her Apple and wanted to sue. I like my Apples, without worms, thank you very much. An Example of Understanding Consumer Thinking

By Darrin Coe A church in my community provided me with one of the best examples of understanding the consumer, which Ive ever experienced. Once a month a church in my community provides free lunch, open to the public. When you go into the dining area you are initially met by a man who is loud, amiable, and obviously enjoying his position. He greets you with a handshake, making sure you know that, Everything is on the house. He then orders your meal for you and directs you to a seat. After this someone comes with beverage choices and finally, someone brings you your plate. When you are almost finished another person asks if youd like more or if youd like some food to go. When I was there the cook came out and asked several people how the food tasted and if they had gotten enough to eat, stating, We dont want you leaving hungry. On top of this, the food was well prepared and really tasty. There was no evangelizing or proselytizing. There was no announcing the next church event or service times. There was no program you had to sit through as payment for your food. It was just good people, serving good food, and showing they cared about others. How does this show an understanding of the consumer? Their target market is the less fortunate, the lonely, the unchurched, and the elderly. These types of people want to be respected. These types of people want to know that someone cares. These types of people want to have somewhere to feel safe and socialize and at certain times of the year they want a nice warm place to stay for a few minutes. Conversely, they dont want to feel like theyre at a soup kitchen where they have to pay for their food by sitting through a program being shoved down their throat. They dont want to be treated like they are less fortunate, lonely, depressed, or outcast. The bottom line is these population segments want to feel validated. Everything this church does during these free meal days, from a warm friendly greeting, to serving the person at the table, to offering takeout, says they understand this need for validation and are working to fulfill it. They want people who dont normally get to go out to eat or who dont get to have some of the nicer comforts in life, to have these experiences. They obviously want to validate the people who come for the free food. My guess is that this church sees an increase in visitors after every free meal because they understand what the consumer of the free meal is thinking. They provide much more than a free meal, they provide validation exhibiting a great understanding of consumer psychology. Marketers can learn a great deal from this example. Take the time to really understand what your target market wants and then provide superior service that fulfills their need, want, or desire and youll eventually see a stable increase in your bottom line. In general, bread has been around for centuries. Experts believe that its origins started nearly 12,000 years ago. As one of the oldest prepared foods, bread is dating back to the Neolithic era. The first breads produced were probably cooked versions of a grain-paste, made from ground cereal grains and water and shaped into loaves that were laid on heated stones or baked by covering with hot ash. Descendants of these early breads are still commonly made from various grains worldwide, with the Mexican tortilla, Indian chapati, Chinese poa ping, Scots oatcake, North American johnnycake, and Ethiopian injera all being examples. However, the earliest documentation traces bread to the Middle East, where Egyptians cultivated grains. They baked flat breads, which are still eaten today, for many centuries until the discovery of fermentation at least three thousand years ago. The technique of fermentation, which causes bread to rise, spread to all countries bordering the Mediterranean. This sparked new improvements with the development of clay ovens and the introduction of the rotary mill in 1,000 BC. These advances spread to other civilizations including African, Asian, Indian and much later American cultures. Bread became so important that the bread industry began being controlled by those in power in the 11th century, by price and weight regulation. With further developments in agricultural machinery greater crop yields were realized. Hence, bakers headed towards the towns. Otto Frederick Rohwedder is considered to be the father of sliced bread. In 1912 Rohwedder started work on inventing a machine that sliced bread, but bakeries were reluctant to use it since they were concerned the sliced bread would go stale. It wasn't until 1928, when Rohwedder invented a machine that both sliced and wrapped the bread, that sliced bread caught on. A bakery in Chillicothe, Missouri was the first to use this machine to produce sliced bread. For generations, white bread was considered the preferred bread of the rich while the poor ate dark bread. You need to be watching the buying activity of your clientele and customers and chart where they are coming in and why? Are you focusing your money on making sure that your target market understands your message and remembers your company?
